Remind Your Child of Alternative Behaviors
A child with autism may not be aware of their options when they come asking for what they want. For example, if your child is used to screaming to get your attention, remind them they can get your attention with “excuse me” or by tapping your shoulder. Helping your child identify appropriate alternative behaviors that serve the same purpose can help your child more positively relate to their surroundings and navigate their environment more independently.
