What is Prompt Dependence?
A child is considered prompt dependent when they have become reliant on a prompt to complete a task they’ve mastered or when they’ve been prompted in a specific way frequently enough that it’s difficult to change the way a task is completed. We want children to become independent! So we use techniques like fading prompts or starting with the least intrusive prompts and gradually increasing to avoid prompt dependence.
